At this time of the year in particular, we always find ourselves being given little gifts by businesses we patronize through the course of the year. Some people refer to these things as "premiums". You know the kind of stuff I'm talking about--calenders, pens, T-shirts, etc. You might even give some of that sort of stuff out to your own customers.
There was a thread a while ago, on a different site, about "Cylinder Index". It was proposed as a way of judging how much mechanical stuff you are responsible for by adding up the number of cylinders in all the equipment you own.
I'm not sure how exactly it might be used to track how much of your hard earned cash you've spread around the economy in the past year, but there's got to be some sort of correlation between how much you've paid out, and how much stuff people are giving you as a way of saying, "thanks for the business". We could call it the "Year End Premium Index".
The thing that got me to wondering if there's a useful correlation that can be made is that last year the garage ( :cash ) that does our vehicle repairs gave us a little 2" x 3" calender with a magnet to stick it to the refrigerator, and this year we got two different full sized calenders with pretty pictures of cars for each month, a tin of cookies, and a bottle of Seagram's VO.
