I'm sure I"m not the first to pull out their camera and discover the screen is no longer functioning. How did you get it replaced? I did a google search and there are places that advertise repair. I also thought about sending it back to the manufacturer. Anyone have a good/bad experience going through the process that they care to share?

From my past experiences (4 cameras) I always found it cheaper to buy a new camera or I actually found my last one on Ebay, A direct replacement missing the cables.

I agree.Unless it's a recent top $$$ model, then I'd buy another new one.The new technology is well worth it.You will get more camera for less $$$ these days.

The though crossed my mind. I have the Canon S410 - a couple years old. My wife now has the Canon SD500 which I bought a year ago (w/ memory around $500). I thought I could get the same camera as her for much less now. But my camera works fine (except for the lcd) and I don't need the higher tech options. My older format is very similar to my wife's, it just doesn't take a 7.1 mega pixel picture - which we don't use anyways since it consumes too much memory. We generally take pics at around 3 to 4 mg pixels.

If the cost for a new LCD was $100 to $125 I'd seriously consider replacing the screen rather than buy a new one at $400 or more. If the cost exceeds $200 I'd buy a new one for sure.

You don't have to spend that kind of money to get a good camera.I just bought a refurb Pentax Optio S50 for $150.I couldn't want any more in a compact P&S camera.

I am waiting for the new Canon S3 for anything the smaller Pentax won't do.

I bought my wife a Canon G6 about a year and a half a go. She just replaced the screen, cost was $250. We sent it back to Canon, through our local photo shop.

my old canon g1 locked up on me in the fall, so it was going to be a few hundred just to see what was wrong. and being that old, i replaced it with the new canon a620 and i love this new camera. it was cheaper than the g6 was and a lot smaller. g6 is a lot more camera than i need. g1 performed well for years, until it locked up, a bit bulky too
i would just buy a new one if i were you.

Had the screen replaced in a brand new fuji film this past december. Cost was around $100 via the manufacturer. Came back in tip top shape, just boils down to the mathamatics about sending it out or buying new.

Good luck.
