Does anyone use a hydroseeder for deicing? I am already going to buy a sprayer for deicing but I am kicking around the idea of a Hydroseeder like a 700 gallon or so.

Anyone use one? How many gallons? Do you use it for spraying roads or just for treating piles??

I do not know the exact gallonage but here in MN you can not transport a tank (tanker) with out baffels in the tank. A customer of mine has a 500 gal hydroseeder and MNDOT says they can't transport it on the roads full of liquid, legally! I'll see if he knows anything more but it's prolly different for you.

How the heck does he get to his jobs with the hydroseed mix?? I don't think we have that problem here in CT.

Kinda makes me wonder how you haul milk in MN then. Last I knew food grade tankers had to be washable and baffles prevented that from happening. And there would be some conflict with interstate transit regs if a tank legal in one state could not travel in another. Something smells wrong about that whole story. HAZMAT maybe but it seems like it would have to be posted at all points of entry. If it is fact a guy hauling a load of OJ out of FL to a processor in MN could easily be in violation.

I found a jet pump hydroseeder today. 500 gallon. I am seriously considering it!

Turbo turf makes a kit for their hydro seeders to use them as liquid deicers.

Talk to me. Got any more specs? I'm looking into this also. I went down to look at a sprayer and was told another company uses the hydroseeder instead and it worked great except for the fact that he has to store it inside for fear of freezing up.

Why would it freeze up with magic in it??? I wouldn't worry about that. Magic doesn't feeze!! :nope

Don't know what he is spraying. Sounded weird to me too but that is what they told me. Anyway, about the hydroseeder... Model number, brand, anything?

Here is the link. It is jet powered instead of auger. That is what I would like to get.

Don't run a liquid deicer containing Magnesium Chloride in a pump that has an aluminum housing. Mag is corrosive to non-ferrous metals. Cast iron or plastic pumps will handle it fine. Also, no brass hose fittings either.

Thanks Alan, Didn't even think of that! It still would be cheeper to swap pumps than buy 2 entire units though.

I don't think its that they can't travel on road but he doesn't have a tanker endorsment. Something with the size and them having baffles as I now understand. But he was also just the sales man... and we know they "know everything"!

All you have to do is put a boom and it would be great for The city or Large parking lots! Should work fine! Just watch out for the aluminum and brass parts in the pump and piping!

Matt What do you get a sq ft for hyrdo?

Just to see how it compares with "downcountry" rates, I'm at $55/K sf up here and I'm on the high end of the scale. We've got guys working for $45/K and driving rates down for everybody, just like plowing.

I know guys around here are getting $90k/sf to $111k/sf. I am not going to go crazy with it for hydroseeding really to just take care of my self and a some friends. But also double for liquid deicing!

Ran a turboturf set up this year for the first time. Has the cast iron pump. Worked pretty good......trying to get the liqud down. Has a boom with different nozzles and nozzel controll. Used brine made outa rock salt. Ran it in back of the 550. Used for parking lots......

Ya the liquid applicating is going to be new to me also. I know it is very tough the pavement temp has to be 32 or below. I definately am going to be spraying piles for some friends and customers.

just out of curiosity depending on what you are spraying for de icing and then using it in the summer for hydroseeding couldnt kill the seed ? just a thought but i dont know to much about any of it

We try to rinse out the brine before we dump the seed in and hose down a yard;):haha

Its al PE(I'm 99.9% sure its polyethelene anyway) so it cleans up easy. I wouldnt let a 1/2 a tank sit for a winter seasnon though......
