Hey guys maybe you can help me out on my Dodge. It has 94000miles on it and every so often when I go to start it it will just click and then I cycle the key again and it starts fine. Well the other day I went to start it and it started and then was making a funny sound I couldnt tell if it was like the starter wasnt disengadging. Well then it wouldnt shut off. It was barely running and sounded horrible and I cycled the key switch and it finally stopped and ideas I read the manual and it doesnt really help. Thanks

It sounds like you've got a problem in the ignition switch to me.

Jason - your starter contacts are bad.Get them replaced now before it does some serious damage.

In the mean time, leave the negative battery cables loose, you may need to pull them if it happens again.

Larry B sells some nice oversize contacts, with easy instructions on replacement.

Go here (http://fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm) to order the contacts,or even new starters with contacts installed.

Mine did the same thing at about 118K, the contacts are worn, usually one is real bad,the other like new.I got mine on ebay for under 20 bucks, around 21 shipped,or you can get it here http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/ .It will ltake you about an hr to unbolt the start, swap the contacts and reisntall it. heres one cheaper http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DODGE-CUMMINS-5-9-DIESEL-STARTER-UPDATE-REBUILD-KIT_W0QQitemZ8042786811QQcategoryZ33576QQssPageNam eZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
