So I have a few Polaris Sportsman 400's and use them for about 40 miles worth of sidewalk in a large HOA. After about three times out the cutting edges are gone and already got up into the plow itself.....anything better? Anybody ever hardfaced a ATV cutting edge, did it help?:feedback

Have you tried a poly edge? I've seen them on ATVs and on our plows, I won't run anything but poly.

Ditto.

I know this doesn't help right off the bat because you already have the ATV's, but look at this unit that Jerre put together for us for sidewalks. Haven't used it much, but so far, so good. The plow has a urethane edge for an 810 cut down to fit this plow. So it has the steel inserts and should wear like iron considering the weight of the plow.

Poly?????????:huh You'd think that poly wouldn't last two seconds on a concrete sidewalk but I guess I should look into it. I also had a freind that owns a fab shop make me one out of AR (abrasion resitant)steel. Just gotta wait till it gets back from the supplier since his 60 ton shear won't cut, but its the same stuff they use on road grader blades and dump truck bed liners.

How do those steel edges run over (or into) the expansion joints in the concrete? A urethane edge will ride right over the joints and will not jar or throw the driver/rider.

FWIW, the poly edge lasts much longer than steel. I plow municipal roads with a 9' Fisher, and the poly edge is the best by far. The steel is deafening and god forbid I hit anything. I will never run any plow without a urethane edge.

I never have the blade straight so I don't have any problems hitting expansion joints head on. I guess I will run both for a while and see which one last the longest.

I use urethane on my sidewalk truck, it smooths out the bumps like mentioned and also acts like a squeegee and skims off the snow leaving just a thin layer of slush that burns off quickly if you've pre-treated. It also makes the handicap ramps a little less punishing.

Get a decent brand and I'll put my money on the urethane.

Pioneer, we do a 3/4" poly on the ATV plows down here all the time. They last a long time and clean well. Some people are also using 3/4 or 1" reinforced rubber material to do the job but the poly wins hands down.

Jerre I'm assuming you mean urethane edge, a 1" u edge on the ATV should last a lot longer, then the standard steel edge.

I'd go 1" thick on the ATV.It will cut well and last forever.
