Rich, better bring a barrel this time:zoom .I think there will be alot of blessing going on. Blessed are those who travel.
Looks like the 22nd is going to be the date. Got to check the family calender here over the weekend.
Looking forward to a fun weekend this year as always. Maybe some new toys here for the show.
Going to put the invite out to the Aurora reps to pass down to Douglas group. So maybe some Fisher / Western Representation also. I know Jonathan is looking forward to coming back down from Blizzard. Maybe we will have a few of the Blizzard guys down again this year.
Jonathan's been a busy guy this winter. Talked to him for quite a while Thursday for the first time in a while. This is unusual because we usually talk several times a week. When he doesn't hear from me or I don't from him we know it's busy.
They ( blizzard ) have been working on some of the problems surfacing and trying to find us solutions. So far there are fixes for the wing problem of extension and the back plate catching. I'll be posting some good picts of both.
Those of you with problem's on trucks or plow's please feel at ease to bring them with you for diagnostic and repairs.
There will be a special GTG program running for plows brought down for summer service for those of you who will be done with snow for the season and want to bring yours with you. Also for those who bring them in thru June.

Lookin forward to it! I might even try to get away on Fri. for some of the festivities - and may take advantage of the spring special Jerre.
For those of you who might be sitting on the fence about making the trip out, be assured it is worth it - great to put faces and names together and enjoy the company of like minded individuals. Some guys have travelled quite a distance to be there, and it would be great to see many of you there again!

P.S. those Iowa guys may want to rethink the drive and not get shown up by the B.C. and Manitoba guys thinking of the trip.
I'll be there. No concrete bed motel this year  Go kart racing sounds like a good time.

Ok, well I just reserved a room at the Microtel. Got it for $42.95 a night. Must present a business card at check in (though they never asked last year).
You can cancel up to 6pm on the day of check in, so if the date changes, no problem.
Jerre,
Is the 22nd a go?

Last year I found out that Microtel allows dogs. I've got to confirm that and if they still do we'll bring #2 Boy with us this year.

There is a WalMart on Peach Street. Right down from Quaker Steak, and Krispy Kreme.
I'm going to dig up some info from last years post.
-------------------------------------
Directions.... and more info from last year's thread.

OK, Here's the directions by road.
From the East or the West you'll come in on I-90.
to Exit 32 Rte 430 Station road ( Wesleyville / Colt Station exit ) Head to the lake.
Right turn if from the East. You'll be going 1mile either way.
Left turn if from the West.
This is a 4 lane now with signs as the Bayfront Connector.
Go thru the traffic lights past the Country Fair convenience store/ Gas station.
Stay in the Right lane down the hill.
You'll see a sign that says Station Road Right lane.
Bear to the Right. Yield sign as you make the turn.
Shop is on the Right 1/8 mile from the Yield sign.
Parking will be at the shop and several places across the street.
Roger can probably even get us passes for On campus parking at Penn State if he puts his mind to it..
If your coming from the South take I-79 north to I-90 East
If your coming from the East in lower NY or beyond and I-86 is the easy route across take it to the end and then I-90 West.
Air port is down town about 15miles away. Cabs and busses run all the way to the shop. Hotels on Pine ave and Parade street have the best rates and are a couple of miles from the shop.

Actually, that's not entirely true. I'm pretty sure that I read a bunch of municipalities are starting to not allow that. Especially when they are in a traditional camping area. Campgrounds are hurting becasue people are going to the Walmart for free, then staying in a regualr campground only periodically so they can empty the tanks etc. So, using the services to the fullest but not paying for the living on the other days.

Not all WalMarts allow overnighters. While the corporation welcomes overnighters, it's left up to the discretion of individual store managers. The WalMart just off of I90 & Rt. 19 (exit 24) does welcome campoers provided awnings are not unrolled, bbqs aren't fired up, and no lawnchairs. Campers are supposed to check in with any WalMart management first before assuming they can stay the night. I have learned this through the RV forums of which this topic is popular discussion there. They also want RVers parking further out from traffic flow - makes sense.

I'd like to offer the same to anyone in Ontario. I live about 25 miles west of Buffalo, so if needed we could have a "staging" area up here at the shop, or I know of a few places in the area where vehicles would be safe overnight. This might help a few who don't want to drive the extra two hours, or prefer to carpool.
Just a thought - but would be nice to have a few of us down there!

bill can't ride with me, or drive me either. he's going out for some football game at pennstate and will be out there a different time than me.
i'll probably run my wife's old corolla out, 30 mpg, can't beat that.
only thing is, the cops would pull that thing over faster than they would my work truck. for some reason, the cops like to give the working man a break, at least around here. unless you are really breaking the limit.

Jay/Bill we are going have to meet and follow up. Last time I went I went I86. Quite ride but I made very good time in the 6500. Where are you guys staying again?
I am definately putting a 810 erie special on the Dodge. I don't know if I will have the new 5500 by then. That is on hold right now. I have been after a new place with a 3000 sq ft garage. This past weekend some new options opened up for me. I can always find a truck but not a place like this.

There are a few of us staying at the Red Roof Inn at Exit 27, one exit away from Peach St. There's a country music bar within walking distance (or is that staggering?) of the motel, right up my alley! I'm looking forward to a getaway from reality for a couple days!

Quality Inn 814-864-4911
Red Roof 814-868-5246

High end hotels on Peach street or 3 exits away ( this is the JAA plow Corridor if you wanted to know )
Hampton inn 814-866-6800
Country Inn and Suites 814-864-5810
Courtyard by Marriot 814-860-8300
Microtel Inn 814-864-1010

Sorry Geo only a couple of your honey clubs in the area and there all a drive. No Hooters anymore. It went belly up.....
The Ramada and the Quality Inn have alot of parking and bars in the hotels. The Best western 2 exits away has good parking too.
All but the ones 3 exits down are very reasonable however you can get good rates at them too sometimes.

Were going to be coming in late on Friday evening so save us a spot at the Lube for dinner.

Just talked to the owner of the local bar/resturant. They have a country/rock band playing there Sat night starting at 9:30. They can seat as many as we want to bring. It's a short drive back upto the interstate and about 6 miles from peach street.
Jerre
I hate to say it but I kinda like the Longhorn, in part because it DOESN'T have a band. Any bar band I've ever seen works by the motto "If you can't be good be LOUD!" At least at the Longhorn you can carry on a conversation with the person next to you without having to scream. It's not often that we get together and, at least for me, getting to talk to everybody is the thing that makes it worth the trip.

Just like last year, and the year before, dinner at Longhorn's, and those that want to bar hop or see a band can do so after we eat. You'll find me over at KK after dinner ;)
Placed the soda order on Monday. This time I got 3 root beer, 1 black cherry, and 1 cream. I also got 3 cases of water. Never had the black cherry, but a place we go out to eat at has the cream soda, and the kids love it.
It's been a long wait for the GTG, and it surprised me that it is next week. FINALLY!
On the "bar band" topic, Chris and I went to a local place we always wanted to try. I was not impressed with the food, and "lucky" us, we got seated next to the stage. We couldn't wait to get out of there. We were there to eat dinner, not for the band. :(

Looking forward to it - be a nice break. Not sure if I'm gonna make it for Friday night, but hope to. Be there for Saturday anyway. All depends how well the week goes!
Bill posted he wasn't going a while ago. But now I'm beginning to think Jay isn't really allowed out by himself after dark, not sure if that's to protect us the general population, or for his own safety :zoinks
Unfortunately I'll be missing the Saturday festivities, but I'll throw my vote for a Longhorn's type setting for the already mentioned reasons. Seems getting everyone settled into the dinner part of the night takes a while & becomes a well after dark event. So that would be well into any band starting times probably, which would definitely interfere with the spirit of the dinner IMO.
I'll be there for any Friday arrivals & the fun that will be had then, but then have to leave the Erie area early Saturday AM, so thats when you all have to stop having any fun so I don't miss any of it. OK... just kidding, but it was worth a shot :haha

I completly understand were your coming from with work , i truly missed you not being in Erie last year and will again this year will never forget how hard you made me laugh the first time we met , after all it was really you that got the whole Father thing started.
At this point in the year i really dont care if i miss a day or two . The last two fridays i have left at noon baby steps has some here suggested both saturdays when i returned nothing was done or finished that i asked to be done. So this coming friday we are simply switching the phones over to Closed Friday and Saturday do to a emergency i told myself its a major emergancy to seek some sanity in taking two dang days off. For my guys its simple if they have vacation days left then they can use them other wise tough luck both times i have left they have goofed off.
I understand a guy has to do what a guy has to do but myself i wouldnt miss the trip to Erie short of death in the family of which if it wasnt me then we can bury them on monday when i get back.
Not giving you a hard time just know your stressed has iam and some time away could help like i said missed ya last year and will miss ya this year . Try and get some R&R at least with the daughter this year buddy.

Alright Connecticut lads, faire attention (as the French would say)
In Asian culture they live the concept of balance in all things. This is oddly absent for many of us and is an important thing to remember. Taking a day or three to disconnect, recharge the batteries, and even the 9 hours to reflect during the pilgrimmage is not a bad thing at all.
Perhaps you and Jay could tag-team the driving with a laptop and get caught-up or even ahead on the paperwork. Perhaps you could lengthen the shifts by a couple hours to make up for the time spent away in Erie.
While I understand the import of rapid response to customer and business needs, I also know that most folks understand that you will be coming to (pick one or more) a. comfort grieving friends; b. engage in mission-critical training (many surprises and products coming this year); c. religious pilgrimmage; d. allowing your bruised knuckles to heal; e. all of the above.

Agreed, but for the landscapers specifically this is the beginning of our "Christmas" (busiest) season and after such a dismal winter (there was plenty of time to disconnect this year) there is a genuine need to work. Retail managers do not take vacation in December, radio hosts don't take vacation during sweeps, and teachers don't take vacation during school. It's just what we do.
As you say, not a bad thing to do but I think this year has already proven to be unique. Wish I were going...

I can understand what Bill is saying. I've been working 18-20 hours a day, 6 and 7 days a week. I've been trying to grow the trucking/hauling side of the business and in the last few weeks it's really taking off. Plus, I just starting doing all the CM and sitework, on a subcontractor basis, for a large builder in the area. Then there's all of our other projects! My wife hates it, but like I tell her, I have to take the work while it's there. She talks about balance too, and I can obviously see her point. It's difficult at best to turn away or walk away from work. For me, I do no advertising and it's my name on the business, so every referral counts, since you never know what it turns into! I mention balance as I type this on Easter Sunday! Ugh.
I make as much time as possible for my family, after that, I can make no promises. I too would love to join you guys next weekend. Unfortunately, it's not going to happen.
Have a great time and my Best to everyone. Enjoy! Oh, and takes lots of pics!

I don't know guys.....when you get to my age you start to look at the big picture. Ten years from now, do you really think it will make a bit of difference in your life if you take a few days off?? Will you remember what job it was you did in place of this gathering? I'll bet in 10 years you could remember the trip to Erie if you went (well, maybe not if there's enough Holy Water). That's why I'm going!! Give it some consideration guys, I assure you you'll remember the event and be glad you went!

Jerre, whaddya' think about me throwing an asphalt track & some wheels on the ski's of a sled & runnin' her up & down 430 for a little "show" ? LOL
Joe,
I think the standard setup will work for the field. 900' one way and 1400 the other..........My 600 will really rip along in it. That was the most riding I did all winter.....Don't forget your parachute...... Jerre

I was entertaining faint thoughts of running over to Erie for the day sat, but it doesn't look good.
Map Quest says 11 hours 670 miles, and although I'd love to meet you all, business is booming and family time is suffering. Due to the complete loss of revenue this winter the bank account demands that I stay and work. I'll be thinking of you guys, though.
Have fun and enjoy one for me :drinkup .

........part of being self employed is not being able to get away when the moneys coming in. In all honestly i probably shouldnt be going either, but I am going anyway,I will make up for it when i get back,I really need a relaxing weekend just hanging out and shooting it with the guys from this site.
It's really a personal choice. I look at it this way, I used to go to the SIMA Symposium, the SIMA Fall Leadership meeting, Parker's (Taconic) BBQ every year. Then Jerre's came up. I missed SIMA Symposium, backed way off on SIMA involvement, dropped off two SIIMA Committees, and Parker stopped having the BBQ. Now I am left with Jerre's and the SIMA Symposium. I Missed the Symposium the past two years, but went to Jerre's both years. This year, I have no interest in any of the Speakers at the Symposium, but I would like to just attend the trade show for a day.
The most fun I have had is at Parker's BBQ and Jerre's, moreso at Jerre's. So IF I could only attend one event, it would be Jerre's.
There is just no stress at Jerre's. At the SIMA Symposium, there are a bunch of training sessions back to back, and you end up not getting to talk to all those you wanted to. You are mainly there to learn, while having a relaxing time comes second. At Jerre's, a relaxing time comes first. You end up learning a bunch while you're there. You will also laugh until your stomach hurts. Pretty good therapy if you ask me.
You would all postpone work if a family member really needed you to, for a day or two, you have employees afterall. So why don't you count yourselves? WHY can't you postpone work (your being there at least) for a Friday and a Saturday, for YOU? You'll be back to work Monday morning, with friendships and memories that will last for years to come.

Saturday night is on the town in Erie.
Sunday morning is a return to the Cracker Barrell for Breakfast and vistitation before alot of people hit the road for home.
Snow is not in the forcast for this year but then again it is Erie.

I have just consulted the Oracle of Delphi who reports that it will be WET in Connecticut on both Saturday and Sunday. The excuse meter is pointing to "thin" so the logistician in me says work Friday through lunch. Then quietly exit stage right and head west. By my feeble calculations, you should arrive in plenty time for breakfast saturday.

Adams, I'm not heading out that way this weekend but I might be able to answer the question anyway??
Well,, I hate to have to say this but we won't be making the pilgrimage.
I've been trying to get equipment ready for work for the past two weeks and nothing has gone particularly right. I've got work backing up and no money coming in and the startup expenses are killing me after the poor winter.
I lost two days last week to a screwed up back as well, so that threw me even later getting stuff running.
I want to make the trip but I also know that I won't be enjoying it like I should with the thought in the back of my mind that I'm getting further behind.
Not the way I wanted things to happen but I've got to get after the work stuff first. I'll miss all of you, I was really looking forward to this weekend, right up to the point that I took stock of what needed doing and realized just how much remains to be done.
Enjoy, folks!

Well most of you know I won't be running to Erie this year. Due to a fistfull of reasons it wasn't possible. I couldn't wait for April to come around this year but like some of you it wasn't in the cards. I regret not being able to see everyone again. I just had to much fun last year. I really wanted to get to talk with some of the new people I met here as well as a few i didn't get a chance to chat with last time. John DiMartino comes to mind just to name one.
Have a great time and be safe so everyone can do it again next year.
Have a Pepsie for me. Erie 2007 isn't that far away

Alan really feel bad your not making the trip like a father to me and i will truly miss our time together.
Mike also will miss not seeing you has well.
I could set here today very easy and talk myself out of the trip but iam gonna say something here that i may not have said in the past but say everyday here Iam trusting in God that things will be fine while iam gone my whole buss starts and ends with the God.
I also have about 2400 lbs of dead weight hanging on my truck that needs to get to Erie .
I relized two weeks ago while in mackinaw its not the gross number of friends that you meet but the quailty of even three that can make any trip worth while. Were pulling out later tonight early morning for the trip hope to see everyone / for those that dont make it your in my thoughts.

I guess it's up to me to reverse this "sorry I can't make it" trend.
I'd been sort of on the fence about whether I'd make it or not. My wife has the midnight shift Friday night into Saturday. Things having worked out they way they have, the whole gang of us will be there for Saturday, most of the day. :) Fortunately, we're close enough to just make it a day trip, so I'll miss any of the Friday evening fun, and how well behaved the twins are will determine how long we're able to hang around on Saturday.
The good news is that two sixteen-month olds should more than make up for the intellectual capicity that'll be missing becasue Bill and Jay aren't coming, and besides, Avery looks even cuter in a Tutu than Jay... :)

Thank you, I was starting to get bummed out :(
I hope I'm there on Saturday to meet the twins (well OK, you too I guess)

Well we knew that part would be no problem ( I mean there will be Blizzard equipment to look at at least, and its easy enough to have a conversation with Jerre's Plasma Cutter), so that wasn't the worry... But are those babies able to make us laugh like those 2 CT boys can??
and besides, Avery looks even cuter in a Tutu than Jay... :) Hmmm, I don't think it will be THAT cute.. (Now I got Mark all worried again he he he)

I imagine their humor is a little more sophisticated than the CT variety, and they laugh all day long, so they must be saying some awfully funny stuff. The trouble is, I'm not sure any of us speak their language...

The sweeper project is coming together, only about two weeks late at this point. Considering I've managed to bounce a hydraulic pump off my coconut and blister a finger so far today I'd really rather be in Erie!
