Hey all , i posted this on the "other site " , it turned into some bashing .... so i hope ya dont mind ill brag here for a bit:
Being a dad is great........
One of the great pleasures of being a daddy ... my oldest boy turns 14 in febuary . He has been plowing with me ( shoveling while i plow to make some extra cash) for about 2 years . He has been driving the tractor and my trucks around the farm since he was about 10 . Last winter at a church i plow , nice wide open lot with no obsterctions , i let him get in the drivers seat and drop the plow a few times and make some piles .Ever since then he has been reading the auto trader every week and drooling over 4x4's . Soooo the wifey and have been talking about getting him a "fixer-upper" for him , let him work on it until he gets his temps in 11/2 years. Was at a auction at BGSU a few weeks ago , they had some small 2wd rangers and a 3/4 k20 4x4. Usually i dont look at trucks at auctions because i find they usually go for twice what there worth ( or maybe im cheap ....hmmm) I was loading up some stuff i bought and heard one of the Rangers go for $375 , got my attn real fast. Still thought when they got to the K20 , it would go for $1500-$2000. Low and behold i got it for $700. Only has 80K orig miles , not alot of rust for a 83 chebby , and i drove it home . Only reason i figure it went so cheap was the weather was about 40 deg , rainy and downright ugly out. Seeing the look on my boys face when i threw him the keys , was one of the moments as a dad i will never forget . Have had a even better time getting it ready for paint ( ahhh the smel of fresh bondo and fiberglass) has been some truely great father son moments . . Sorry for the long post guys , but i just had to brag a lil bit ....
Best of all , shes all set up with a meyers front bracket , all i need is a e47 and blade and plug it in.
2nd bestof all , when hes 16 , my next oldest boy will 14 and ready for his "fixer-upper" ...geeee 4 years of playing with trucks and wifey cant say much cuz its for the kiddies
And yes i made the post longer ... but if ya ever done this , you have to know the feeling ...the best !!!!!
Cheers all!

Great story...You can never brag enough about having a great relationship with your sons. I look forward to when my son is old enough to ride with me when I'm out plowing.:burnout

I saw your previous post- and you're right , it did turn into a bash. One of the last things I saw there that made up my mind to strictly use this site and SIMA's forums.
Now that that is said- I understand exactly how you feel- I have 3 of my own boys, and then I also have custody of my two brother-in-laws. So my wife is completely out numbered with 6 guys in the house!!! LOL!! My yougest is 5 and just had open heart surgery last month- he's doing better now, even though he just got over a case of pnuemonia and almost ended up back in the hospital. He's almost over it now Thank God!! He has his last doctors vistit tmo and will get his release papers to go back to school next week. After that they go 7,9, and then 10 and 17- quite the spread, and life is never boring here.
I think that anyone who has kids is truly blessed and those who do not take the time to enjoy them are really missing out on one of lifes true treasures.
So keep up the good work, and I will listen any time you want to talk kids- as long as I can brag too!! LOL

Bill Hows your little one making out after surgery? Open heart on a 5 year old I cant imagine what you must have felt like. Good luck and know my prayers are with ya on that. I have a six year old daughter and cant even think about her getting hurt or having a medical problem. Last week we had flurrys and she woke up at 2:15 a.m screaming at the top of her lungs and ran in my room. I'm expecting something horrible just happened and shes yelling about the snow as shes handing me my pants and telling me come on dad we gotta rock and roll. When I explained that its only flurrys her reply was "Lets go sanding then you say thats where the bucks is at" Ya gotta love em. Only damn thing is they get big too quick. Good luck and keep us posted on how the little guy is doing.

Hi! I don't mean to but in or anything, but that was a very sweet story. Your sons are very lucky to have you in their lives.
I'm not sure what "the Other Site" is, but how could a post as nice as yours turn into a bashing session?
Enjoy your time with your sons, they grow up wayyyyyy too fast!

Last night my small fry son is out in the garage helping me change hydraulic oil in the plow and he then mentions, "Dad, you should get one of those white plows. You know the one's with the high tops on each end and small in the middle. Then you can plow even more snow."
I 've got a feeling, that Jerre Heyer has been talking to this kid when I'm not around!

Hey guys- thanks for the kind words!! My youngest is doing great- just about over his pnuemonia, and just got the clearance to go back to school next week- no gym for 6 mos, but at least he'll be back with his class. I have a couple of recent pics I'll try to post tmo- just got in a few minutes ago from some storm damage- had to do standby at the fire station, just wanted to check in and catch up on a few threads before hitting the sack. I love the posts so far- every ones family looks great, and keep the little anecdotes coming- they are great!!!

That little guy up there is my son. He's holding a fish that he caught at Wern Farms In Wisconsin.
He's not in pain he just had the sun in his eyes.
Lola I just went to "ATTACH FILE" and put it in there. :D

Thanks for sharing - what great stories. Kids are so wonderful. We don't have any of our own, but we love doing the "auntie and uncle" thing. We have four nephews 20, 18, 17, and 4, and three neices 20, 17, and 1. All but one nephew are on Steve's side. I'm glad my brother had at least one son, so my folks can have a grandchild. He is 18 now and off to college.
Prosno - you've definitely got a plow partner there! Just from the pictures, she looks like her mom.
cny-bill - glad to hear your son is recovering well - you'll be in our prayers.
RogerDodger - did someone slip him one of the Blizzard videos when you weren't looking ?!? ;)
How about a new smilie - kind of like this one :burnout only with a little face in a car seat!

WOO HOO!! Congrats Staley!!
Twins huh? Double blessings!! :greenange :greenange
Somebody up there likes you!
I don't have a smilie with a carseat but I do have one that has two drivin' smilies with helmets.
Hmm I wonder if I could make a smiley with a baby in a carseat. That would be cute.
