Well today I fubared. I had unlatched the plowto oil the springs and pivot points on the jacks. I latched (or so I thought) both sides. As I was leaving I was widing the path to the shop and cought somthing. I raised the plow at the end of the push backed up and heard somthing dragging. I got out and found that the drivers side had come unlatched and that I had bent the jack stand unde3r the A-Frame. I had to take the plow off and then unbolt the reciever/jack to bend it back. When it bent under it ripped so I had to reweld it as well. I am thinking of coming up with a way to hook the latch/ stand up as a backup incase I don't get the pin slide in all the way. All works find now I'm just disapointed in myself. I should have double checked everything. I know accidents happen but damnit. I'm guess I'm just ticked at myself Anyway I'll hop off of my:soapbox

Dont panic, I bent the kickstand on my new 810 first time on the truck for snow work. Got the plow on the truck went down the drive scrapin a 1/2 inch of snow and heard something dragin. Got out and looked, oops forgot about the kickstand. :D LOL
Made a good short Sat. project for me and my lil Katy (she is six) to fix. We did real good, looks as good as new now.

Hey William, atleast you were able to fix it yourself, and get it back to normal. Chalk it up to a learning experience, thats all. You arent the first guy I have read about here to not properly latch the UltraMount on both sides, so dont feel bad! :waving Mike :wink

William, Do'nt be so hard on your self.
Been there done that, only didn't bend the stand.

You can bet you'll make sure they are latched now,I do!!

The other thing to look out for is IF you go to mount the plow AFTER or During snow is to CLEAN off the snow from the top of the horns.

If there is too much on the plow it will NOT fully seat into the pockets making it hard or immpossible to latch.
Ask how I know.:beatsme

Thank God I haven't had that happen to me yet. I usually remember to double check and give it a good shake.....knock on wood......lol. I am sure my time will come though....law of probability.....lol.

I am asking how.

I've know that the hard way. Lifted legs and gave 'em a wiggle. Seemed to be latched. 7" of snow I was standing in so kind of in a hurry. Went to back drag the last time hit the pile I had and wham....left the plow behind in the pile. :headwall Boy did that suck. Now it wasn't 7" but a pile I was standing in. EZSNOW recommended to paint the latches so I know when they are fully latched...good idea??? But haven't got around to it yet.

Did the same thing when I started out, but on a boss.

I now triple check all connections and pins after a hook up.

Had I of not learned that lesson, I wouldnt know to double check all.

I'm pretty sure I could get Alzheimers and still remember to double check since that day.. LOL

Don't feel bad,it doesn't happen to just rookies.

That was the main reason we never took the plows off the trucks.Guys would back away and rip the wiring off, because they forgot a plug.Kickstands would get left down and bent,Pins would be left out.Every time the plows came off, something happened.

Make sure you always double and triple check after hookup.Double check when you first hook up.Then back up and plow a clear spot so you can get out and triple check.Good time to look everything over for signs of damage,or bent stuff too.If you catch it early,it may not be an expensive fix.

WELL ,It's kinda like putting your boat in the water with out the plug, when your in a rush.

You'll only do it once.:grinz

I give both leg/latches a good wiggle and double/tripple check them.

I normally get set well before the snow so it's not an issue any more.

Well here is a little update. After looking the plow over and hooking it up and checking that over(Ok I was bored and I miss the snow. I was hoping that the snow gods will look down on me) I think that I might have found out why I thought it was connected. On the side of the stand/latch mechanism, there is a L bracket on the inside that is supose to slide up. For some reason this is tight and I have to use a hammer to finish perswading the latch to lock into place. I added a pic to help everyone understand my ramblings. Any suggestions on how to make this slide on easier?:feedback
Thanks

OK, William

UltraMount = NO Hammer!!! J/K

Anyway, On the leg/Latch mount, (item 16 on the dwg.)
After you drive in the plow ,lift the front handle up to retract the foot.

Pull out the red L shaped locking pin, to swing and latch plow to the truck side mount pin, the red lock pin should just POP in to place.

IF this whole bracket/latch doen't move freely (Hammer Time )??

THEN who ever assembled the plow tightened up the pivot bolt to tight, that holds this on to the plow lift mount. (nut item 35 on dwg)

If this is to tight loosen the bolt till it turns freely.

Also there is suppose to be a plastic washer between the bracket and the plow frame.

Also IF you are not fully seated into the pockets on the truck side mount, it will be harder to PULL the plow on to the truck with the hooks.

Hope this helps.

I just re-read the original post, is it possible that the latch leg is still bent and the L bracket on the bottom
is still hitting the inside of the frame when you are tring to latch?

Also it's possible the outside of the liftmount frame is bent .

Everything looks straight as an arrow. The lift/latch all moves freely. It just hits when I try to bring it up.

You guys have all only dragged the jack stand once, or launched the boat without the plug once?? Man I gotta trade my brain in for a better model :grinz I've plowed the 2" swath with the jack stand down my street a few times, even after years of dealing with that plow. And after years of dealing with the other plow with no jack stand, manual pins with cotter pins, I've still somehow managed to drive down the street & have one side not pinned, or had it fall out in the first pile I worked.

I almost had a second time with the boat plug, but realized the mess up before even getting out of the truck to release the boat from the trailer & was able to pull right back out of the ramp & make it look like I needed to do something in case any onlookers noticed ;)

HA HA , great minds think alike!

BUT for my mess up ,it was too late.
My bud was parking the truck/trailer and there was NO way to get the plug in with out going swimming!

Sooo as he's walking back and the bilge pumps RUNNING,I yell to him," Hey hurry up we got to catch Mike he just went by!"

He get to the dock and says nice bilge pump!

So out on to the river, empty the water and a quick swim and NO problem!

It's all about saving face at the launch ramp!

I've seen lots of funny stuff there.

Side note , looks like the pattern is changing and we might get to plow snow again Soon .
