With not having much snow to work with, I got an idea to make a rubber cutting edge for my Quad and tractor snow blades.
We took off the cutting edge, and one was completely worn off to the bolts.
Not wanting to spend the cost of a new cutting edge, we used 4" by 1/8" mild flat steel to make our own.
We took 1/4 rubber like the top flap on a truck plow. Cut it to fit the size of the plow and cut it 8" wide. We then clamped it to the mild steel cutting bar.
We drilled holes in the rubber to match the plow holes.
We assembled the cutting edge with the rubber extending an inch below the cutting edge to the plow.
What little use we have been able to squeeze out of the equipment, it works really well.
It takes the snow off the sidewalks to the point you almost don't need to apply much antiskid material. Also with high spots or cracks or joints the plow does not catch or hangup and trip the springs.
Been impressed with how well they worked. The rubber is starting to wear but we did not even try to find a denser rubber. We used an old reflector flap from a western blade.
