I have bought plenty of cars and know how to negotiate the best deal (dealer invoice and such)

I went and looked at skid steers yesterday (Gehl, New Holland and Bobcat). Everyone is willing to come down a bit on price, is there anyway to figure what the dealer is paying and what is fair above that (like nada/edmunds/kbb)??

Want a fair price on something that cost about what a car does.

BTW the prices quoted for a S220 and a New Holland LS185.b are within a few hundred bucks simmillarly equiped (Cab, heat, 2spd, hand controls)

Howard If you don't have like a flood of dealers in the same area selling the same thing then I would bet that there prices will pretty much stay where they want them VS. having compittion. They may come down a little from sticker but with deal finance rates or old model close outs. Look for equipment shows ussually they will slash prices at the shows to push machines , like here the masscon show that is when i looked at my gehl 4640.

How do you like the Gehl... I looked at a 5640 and have not heard back on price yet.

I like it very simple set up not alot of cirute boards to go bad I was looking and found that for standard features mine had :

62hp turbo
lift capacity of 1500 w/counterwieght 1650
self leveling lift
8 mph with single speed
hand controls
19 gpm hydraulic flow

Heeellllllpppp

All machines with
2spd
hi flow
cab with heat
hand controls
suspension type seat
bucket with bolt on edge

New Holland 185.b 2 38110
Bobcat S220 38,700
Gehl 5640 34,575

How come Gehl is so much less. I haven't beat anyone up on price.... yet though.

Hey Chris, I'm in the same boat actually. Narrowed it down to Bobcat and New Holland. Pretty much the same options also, except for the hand controls. I was just going to start a thread on what attatchments you would really need hi-flow for, if it's worth the extra $$. Got quotes as follows:

LS190 B
cab heat/ac
2 speed
14x17.5 HD tires
suspension seat
whatever bucket I want
$39,000.

(thats without even negotiating yet)

S250s300
w/gold package

I didn't write them down but I know we were around $45K+. There was a significant different between the two machines in price.

I should add that I called this dealer and he quoted 29500

Seems like a large price spread...

I really like the Gehl. At the expo this spring there were alot of other skids so we spent alot of time climbing and looking for maintaince work/repairs. The gehl was my favorite.
I went to the local New Holland dealer and said there's was better. New holland had a better hp/weigh ratio. But was much much more$$$$$$$.

The Ebay deal also doesn't have the enclosed cab/heat so it will add$$$$$.

I've found the skid steers are like v-box spreaders/comm. lawn mowers- all do the same thing and use alot of the same parts YET prices are mild to wild

The 29,500 machine was optioned how I want it.... dunno if I should consider buying from the dealer as he is Arkansas.

I linked the ebay ad to show who the dealer was

Howard seams like the price keeps going up .But they are going to charge for the install of the cab incloser. I don't know but i don't think i paide extra for the install on mine.Theres'a a few other things that seam pricy the and one that i don't even think you really need .

To me, it seems high for an ls 180. For an extra 5 grand you could get a Gehl 7810 which has about 3 more hp,higher lift, and ac.

Everything is about supply and demand. if you find a good qaulity machine that you like and feel offers good service (machine and dealer), you will be able to get a better price and feel better about the purchase.

What would you take off?

I am going to hammer him on price on Monday... The gehl is available for demo this week, so we will see.

Well first i would make sure i'm comparing apples to apples with options and such. then it's a matter of saying I can get X machine same set up for X amount. I liked the NH when we rented one way back when they had the 555 model but i think like some say on here they are still simple technology much like the gehl, thomas. On that NH they have flashers and turn signals I would ax that off the list another $200 for that why? the install of the cab what is it if you would get it already installed is it the same price.when I got the gehl they gave me the suspention seat the oil heater and even delivered it to my place. I would jusy compare option and features if the lower priced machine can do the same as the higher one I would probaly not bother or just say hey i can this machine same everything for 10K less you want my business match the price and go from there .The john deere guy didn't want to do it so I say bye and got the gehl

Only problem with Gehl is support, the dealers are not real responsive. The Gehl had everything the same except for the turn signals, which is not a bad idea considering that I will be driving it across Leadville 90% of the time (only 3 miles)

That's the other question is dealer suport here i have at least 2 dealers to get that the one i got it from and another just over the nh border

but who know maybe you can bluff him a friend of mine did that over here when he was getting a backhoe cat was 10K more than the case and he said he would get the cat but 10K was 10K and he would be going with case ,I guess he got a call the next day and they lowered it by the 10K so he got the cat. but i supose you can do the same/

Dealer work is something to think about. BUT how much are you going to do yourself? You are saving $9-10K throught the ebay dealer- that's 25% off the other prices. gehl looks real GOOD.:cash :cash :cash payup
