I deal with things like this every year with my WaterWell Biz. :D
95% of the time the cheap a$$ turn down the heat but when the temps drop real low it take a higher heat temp to keep the pipes from freezing. Last year I had a client go to Florida & turned down the thermostat to 40-degs. & a waterpipe on the 2nd. floor wall froze & burst flooding 3' of water in the basement, popped up 2,700 sq.ft. of 3/4" oak flooring on the first floor, ruined a Grand Piano, silk couches, silk rugs & a ton more. When it was all said & done $198,000.00 damage was done :headwall The funny part is my repair bill was $78.00 & the insurance company doesn't pay for what caused the damage but pays for all the damages :cash caused by the frozen pipe.
