My mom's Sable has been havin several power steering problems over the last several months. She has taken it to Goodyear(don't get me started on these idiots) to have the pump replaced a couple times. The last couple have been under warranty. Once they put tranny fluid in instead of p.s. fluid. Anyway, the pump has been whinning again so she took it in them again(don't ask me why) and now they say that the pump is leaking fluid into something in the rack and pinion steering. Is this possible:beatsme If so, is there a way to stop the leak or is it going to have to have another pump replaced. This is like the 4th pump in about 6 months omg
Thanks
William

Just so you know,Ford recommends Dexron ATF as power steering fluid.
Those system are notorious for air getting in,causing the pump whine.
It's possible the rack is gone,or the seals are leaking, which would cause power steering fluid to accumulate in the inner tie rod boots.
Have them fix the leak, but DO NOT replace the pump.Refill and bleed with a vacuum pump to suck the air out.If they don't know how, tell them to call the dealer for a copy of the TSB.

To add to what Chris said i would also be curious if there using A-1 cardone pumps if so there is a problem in itself cardone pumps are built so poorly that end play and runout on the pump shaft causes repeat failures i refuse to install cardone pumps i cannot afford to replace pumps under warr because of crappy workmanship Napa sell cardone along with many other priv label boxes even though iam a napa autocare center there are just somethings i wont use.
And again there is a procudure for bleeding air from fords like Chris said.

Bleeding the Ford pumps is a must. I also found Lucas works.
