This truck has a Holley R6765 1A carb that my local mechanic just rebuilt on a 360 engine. The truck still has the same problem which is when you punch the gas or go to accelerate quickly it wants to stall like it is not getting enough gas.

I took it back to the mechanic and he tried several adjustments but none seem to work. He now says it is just plain worn out. It will not pump the extra gas up it needs for heavy acceleration. Once the engine is revved up then it runs fine. Anybody have any ideas. A local speed shop is suggesting swapping a r 4412 on to it, since the R6765 is not real popular thus eliminating all the emissions stuff. The truck is only used for on property school maintenance and snowplowing.

Autozone has the R6765 for 170.00, with a 35.00 core. Is this a good idea. It has a one year warranty.

Ive never messed with tuning a carburetor before so excuse my ignorance.

Only a suggestion but I would stick with the speed shop guys. I maybe wrong but I think the carb they have is new as in not a re-build.
The autozone with a core charge indicates its a re-build. Just think of it like a river eroding it's banks...some parts of a carb just cannot be re-built

good luck

Thanks Randy, I was kind of thinking the same thing.

The Speed shop wants 269.00 for the R4412. But he can also get me the 6765 for 185.00. I dont know if it is a rebuild or not.

Is it a good Idea to switch to a different one, would the jets not be right or any other kind of calibration problems.

The carb on the truck has 1976 stamped on it, and the truck is a 1974 so it appears to have been messed with already.

There's nothing wrong with a rebuilt carb. as long as it's rebuilt right!
it's not exactly a high wear item. I've got a Holley 600cfm (1850) on my truck that has been on 3 different cars. recently rebuilt (by me), and it runs fantastic!
but if you are going to replace it anyways...get one without all the emissions gadgetry.
and that's my 1/50th of a dollar

I went with the new 4412 from the speed shop put on the chrysler kickdown adapter and the truck runs like a top now. Lot more fun snowplowing when the truck is running right.:blizzard
