Another one of the incurrable problems from this week's snow events.
I have a 2 year old Buyers tailgate spreader (poly hopper, motor mounted inside on cross plate) - was mounted on a truck that was stolen, so to make functional on a new truck, bought another controller. Mounted the new controller in new truck, well grounded, all connections proper - no shorts. The salter worked well at first - after a bit of use (3 lots) began to pop circuit breaker and "MOTOR JAM" message appears on display. Try to free up the motor and ther is no jam - spinner spins freely.
Investigation produces the following - controller works fine with all wiring connected prio to motor - +ve and -ve lead off the motor. Motor runs well off of 2 amp trickle charger, which points to lack of amperage from the controller - replace controller with another new unit and same problem persists. I am beginning to wonder if the culprit is the motor and that it somehow produces enough resistance to pop the circiut breaker.
I pulled the motor apart - I am no 12V electrical motor genius, but it looks clean to me - will bring it in to local motor shop for testing.
Any ideas? - help is appreciated as this baffles me.
On a side note - the new Buyers Salt Dogg we purchased is a wonderful spreader - quiet, works well - really like how if it senses an overload, it will reverse the feed auger to free itself up. The removable chute is awesome as well. Couple of early dislikes - tough to see around, and the majority of the load ends up behind the axle - multiplying the weight on the back of the truck. This should be corrected when the proper front balast is installed in early Dec.
