Another one of the incurrable problems from this week's snow events.

I have a 2 year old Buyers tailgate spreader (poly hopper, motor mounted inside on cross plate) - was mounted on a truck that was stolen, so to make functional on a new truck, bought another controller. Mounted the new controller in new truck, well grounded, all connections proper - no shorts. The salter worked well at first - after a bit of use (3 lots) began to pop circuit breaker and "MOTOR JAM" message appears on display. Try to free up the motor and ther is no jam - spinner spins freely.

Investigation produces the following - controller works fine with all wiring connected prio to motor - +ve and -ve lead off the motor. Motor runs well off of 2 amp trickle charger, which points to lack of amperage from the controller - replace controller with another new unit and same problem persists. I am beginning to wonder if the culprit is the motor and that it somehow produces enough resistance to pop the circiut breaker.

I pulled the motor apart - I am no 12V electrical motor genius, but it looks clean to me - will bring it in to local motor shop for testing.

Any ideas? - help is appreciated as this baffles me.

On a side note - the new Buyers Salt Dogg we purchased is a wonderful spreader - quiet, works well - really like how if it senses an overload, it will reverse the feed auger to free itself up. The removable chute is awesome as well. Couple of early dislikes - tough to see around, and the majority of the load ends up behind the axle - multiplying the weight on the back of the truck. This should be corrected when the proper front balast is installed in early Dec.

Think I've got it - got the motor tested today - it's pooched. Ohms are way too high. I'll pick up a new one tommorrow.

Does your salt dogg freeze up?
I can't leave ours out too long the salt freezes up and the salter goes on overload. I am thinking of spraying the new load of salt with magic salt to reduce the salt from freezing up in the chute.
Also do you have the electrical covers for the wiring when you pull the unit off. Buy'er tells me they are now avalible but I can't find them anywhere.

I agree that the load is over the rear axle too far. We carry about 600 lbs of Blue Cadet in front of the salter for sidewalks.
