Well, today I performed the pre-winter maintenance on both of my 1 year old blizzards. They were quite rusty and dusty even thought hey were washed before storing them in the spring. At first I could not get the rocks stuck in the wings that come out. Blizzard doesn't make it easy to get those wings out. Couldn't do it.

Guys, here are the problems that I had on both plows.

1- I lost the centre nut on (2")the bolt that make the plow rotate left to right
2- All pins holding the pivoting cylinders are bent real bad. Should I replace?
3- Connectors, full of dirt.
4- 3 bolts on a cutting edge had to be replaced
5- 2 bolts were about to go on the other blade
6- 12 Volts motors rusty under the cover
7- sand and rust all over the relief valves.
8- Jack stand bent.
9- Most hydraulic connectors rusty.

Yes, I don't wash the truck or plows. I don't have a garage with a drain in the floor.

FYI for you guys before getting any surprise! Prevention is the best medecine!

on #2 talk to Jerre about his welded on stop mod. We have experience the same bending of angle cylinder pins. We are going to be welding on these Jerre style stops soon...

As far as corrosion issues go...........I took one of our 810 motors completely off of the A-frame.........

I used some brakeKleen to get the pump/manafold clean then i treated all fittings and exposed metal areas with some Fluid Film before refilling the tank and reinstalling. I also disconnected all of the electrical harness points and coated all the contacts with a good healthy coating of die-electric grease......

GOOD LUCK

and you are 1000% right, a good going through now will save you a boat load of headaches later on........

Took both of the 810's to the dealer. For $89.00 each they got a full fluid flush and change. All points check, clean and lube both the plow end and truck end of the harness.

One of the wings would extend but not angle. They took it apart lube the heck out of it and put it back togather. Working fine now. That cost me $100.00 additional. All total $300.00 well spent to know they are ready for the season.

Good luck.

Just threw mine on the Dodge saturday,it worked perfectly.I gave it a quick shot of WD40 when i stored it,and I lubed it all,and under the cover wasnt bad, just normal spider web and light surface rust on anything not painted. I havent changed the fluid in my 810 since i got it,it still clean and blue, and until Jerre says to change it, Im not going to.I used a little brake clean ,and compressed air to get the old dielectric grease out of the connectors, and filled it with new stuff.Im real happy with how the 810 is holding up,the only area im a little dissapointed with is paint, but in all seriousness it is a small price to pay,its not like my fishers or westerns looked good either,my Boss however did hold up better paint/finish wise.

I wash my 810 down between each storm, paying special attention to flushing out the wing channels. When I put the plow away for the season, I give the hinges a good greasing. I'm pretty confident I can just hook up and go when the time comes. I'll give it a good check this week though, I've been tied up keeping my leaf equipment running.

The best advise i could give you for keeping about 1/2 of your list from occuring is Flim flim i have become addicted to this stuff we now use it in the shop on cust cars and trucks i cant say enough about this product.

Coat the entire under cover area with fluid film manifold, hoses, connectors etc. The pins like Jay said need to be replaced before they bend any worse may require a fire wrench at this point anyway then weld or have the stops welded on.

My First Erie plow looks like the second and third under the cover coil nuts are still easy to remove hose connectors, etc. Like John said no reason to change fliud at this point Blizzard fluid holds up well the only reason i had to change it in Erie 2 was of vandels using it to relief themselfs.
