I'm looking at trucks. I looked at a 2001 CTD today. I cycled the key and found a 1683 code. Does anyone know what this indicates? The truck appeared nice and I would consider it but I need to know what that code is. Thanks.

Are you sure it's not a 1693 code ?

I was pretty sure until you asked. Now I have my doubts. The numbers are alike and I had nothing to write with at the time. What does the 1693 indicate?

P1693 means there is a companion code stored in the Cummins ECM,which we cannot see.It is usually accompanied by another code in the Dodge PCM,which will indictate the problem. If there are no other trouble codes, then the problem has most likely been fixed, and the P1693 is there because the codes are not cleared in the Cummins ECM.They are hard to clear, and sometimes will not go away.I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

that is also one of the codes stored when we add a smart controller to the trans, any fumbling with the relays under the hood can set that code. I wouldnt worry about it,just look for the signs of a modded truck,a nicked pump wire on the injection pump, guages,or the plugged hole on the exhaust mainfold,an aftermarket boost elbow, and such. Some modded trucks are good buys, some are being dumped becasue they need work.
